Initial Paperwork Requirements
To register a car in Poland, the first step is gathering necessary documents. You will need the vehicle’s original registration certificate, proof of ownership, a purchase invoice or sales agreement, and a valid ID or residence card. If it’s a foreign vehicle, customs clearance and a Certificate of Conformity may also be required. All documents should be translated into Polish by a sworn translator for seamless processing.

Technical Inspection Obligation
Before registration, ensure your car passes a valid technical inspection. If the vehicle is imported, you must visit a certified diagnostic station for a complete check. The inspection confirms roadworthiness, emissions standards, and overall safety compliance. The resulting certificate must be included in the registration file. Without this, the process cannot proceed.

Local Office Registration Process
Car registration is handled at your local district’s register car in poland department (wydział komunikacji). You must schedule an appointment or visit during open hours. Submit all documents along with an application form. Once everything is verified, you’ll receive temporary registration plates and a registration card, which are valid until your permanent documents arrive.

Fee Structure and Plate Allocation
Expect to pay registration fees including administrative charges, plate costs, and taxes where applicable. The amount varies depending on whether the car is new, used, imported, or electric. Personalized plates and expedited services can also add to the cost. The payment is typically made on-site and can be done by card or cash.

Final Registration and Card Pickup
After processing, you will be notified when your permanent registration card is ready. Typically, this takes a few weeks. Visit the same office with your temporary documents to collect the permanent card and license plates. Your vehicle is now officially registered for use on Polish roads.
